Canary Islands Nightlife

Canary Islands Nightlife is rich and varied across all four of the major islands of Tenerife Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. The other three smaller islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro although not as busy as the first four can also offer some great places of entertainment too!

LANZAROTE

Lanzarote offers an array of interesting experiences, from food cooked by the geo thermal heat from a volcano to hiking, helicopter rides to camel rides. The Timanfaya National Park is a great place to visit and the nightlife is excellent too!

Lanzarote nightlife:

Lanzarote can be both quiet and hectic as far as nightlife is concerned depending on where you go. The best nightlife activities for holiday makers can be found in the town of Puerto del Carmen, especially around the Avenida de las Playas, a very busy street that seems to go on all night long.
A short distance away is the Centro Comercial Atlántico, brilliant for dancing with drinking usually starting around 8 PM and carrying on until the early hours. There are some great DJ’s here too!

Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote and Costa Teguise in the north-east of the island also offer some great bars pubs clubs and nightlife entertainment venues.

Most holiday resorts have their own bars and dancing, while drinking in the hotel bars can also be fun. With live music and disco bars a plenty you shouldn't find it hard to locate a place to suite your taste.

For those who like mixing with the locals and looking for a more traditional Spanish nighlife, then one needs to head to the capital of Lanzarote - Arrecife.

TENERIFE

What can be said about Tenerife nightlife that hasn't already been said? The Ultimate party island of the Canaries.

Tenerife nightlife:

If sleeping in the last thing on your mind in the evening then you can't go far wrong with the nightlife Tenerife can offer. Tenerife nightlife offers something for everyone from quaint small bars to party hard nightclubs. Many clubs stay open until the sun comes up the following morning so prepare yourself for a long enjoyable night before hand.

Other nightlife activities include Piano bars, cabaret, Irish bars, sports bars, family bars practically anything you can think of bars... it's got the lot. Playa De Las Americas is the nightlife capital of Tenerife split into areas. Veronicas and Starco Commercial Centre for family entertainment which is also packed with other bars and restaurants. Here you will find karaoke bars as well as cabaret with family entertainment finishing around 2.30am.
Most of the bars welcome children and serve food throughout the day.

Los Cristianos is also a great place to go for bars pubs clubs and nightlife in general and albeit it little more subdued so are the areas of Golf del Sur, Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

GRAN CANARIA

Second only to Tenerife for partying hard and some may disagree... Gran Canaria also offers a little bit of everything. Puerto Rico is more family orientated through the day having beaches and water parks, while quiet fishing villages can offer a peaceful evening for those seeking it, Mogan's being one of them. In Playa del Ingles you'll find a large contingency of Gay visitors and a good selection of bars and clubs.

Gran Canaria nightlife:

Nightlife in Gran Canaria can be hectic but fun, lively and noisy and like most of the nightlife on the other islands it starts late and ends in the early hours of the morning. Not much happens for the hard core party goer until midnight which is when the island comes alive. So for the older more mature crowd, who prefer a more relaxed evening and who like to sleep at night this is also possible.

There are plenty of bars, clubs and discos to cater for all tastes in the south of the island. Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas which are literally next door to each other. In the evenings here you'll be plagued by leaflet and flyer distributors on your way to the nightlife areas trying their best to get you into a bar or club.

Puerto Rico just a short distance away from Playa de Arguineguin and the last stop on the major GC -1 motorway in the south of Gran Canaria offers some great nightlife too.

Things change very quickly on most of the islands as one place closes then re-opens again as a different bar or club so check back here to keep up to date with what is going off. We can't leave the island of Gran Canaria without mentioning Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Plaza de España in the Mesa y Lopéz district is always lively and continues until the early hours of the morning. Many locals start their evening at the Old Heineken.
Las Palmas also has a casino situated in the Hotel Santa Catalina if you fancy trying your luck at the roulette wheels, blackjack or other games.

There is a second casino the 'Gran Canaria Casino' situated in the Hotel Meliá Tamarindos in San Agustín.

FUERTEVENTURA

The quieter island of Fuerteventura is popular with Northern European visitors. The island Offers plenty of festivals or Spanish Fiestas and the best beaches of all the islands.

Fuerteventura nightlife:

Fuerteventura is a lot more relaxed than the other 3 major islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Being more of a family or honeymoon destination as apposed to a clubbing hotspot, the islands still comes with a great selection of bars pubs clubs and nightlife entertainment venues in the major resort areas.
Corralejo is one of the busier places to the very north of the island offering a variety of bars and discos with live music and British Pubs.
To the east of the island is Caleta de Fuste. There are a few restaurants, sports and family bars to visit here as there are also in Puerto del Rosario.
Towards the southern most point of the island is Morro Jable predominantly occupied by German tourists it has two main entertainment venues. The Centro Comercial de Jandia, with bars and discos upstairs and the Plazoleta de Cirilo Lopez, with pubs, live music and cocktail bars.

El Cotillo to the north-west of the island has few bars but this may change as it looks set to become a more popular holiday resort on the island of fuerteventura.
